A container for the duration of a project and no longer, with the rental period, the extension rate and the collection arrangement all agreed before delivery.
The rental period runs in calendar days from the day of delivery, not in working days, and it continues whether or not anyone touches the container over a weekend. Knowing that changes when.
From the detail belowThe rental period runs in calendar days from the day of delivery, not in working days, and it continues whether or not anyone touches the container over a weekend. Knowing that changes when you want it to arrive. A box delivered on a Thursday for work that will really start the following Monday has already spent a meaningful share of its period standing idle.
The practical move is to align delivery with the first day of real loading rather than with a date that felt convenient when booking. For household projects that usually means arriving on a Friday to cover two weekends. For trade work it means arriving the morning the phase starts, which is also when dispatch can most reliably hit a window.
There are two collection arrangements and confusing them is the most common source of an unexpected extension charge. Under a call for pickup arrangement the container stays until you ask for it to go, and the clock keeps running past the included period at the extension rate. Under a scheduled arrangement a collection date is fixed at delivery and the truck arrives whether you are finished or not.
Both are reasonable and each suits different work. Open ended household clearing suits call for pickup. A phased jobsite with a known milestone suits a scheduled date. What matters is establishing which one applies at booking, because a customer expecting automatic collection can leave a box standing for an extra week without intending to.
Projects run long and extensions are normal. They are also inexpensive, and almost always cheaper than the alternative, which is rushing the last day of a job and loading carelessly against a deadline. The useful habit is calling before the period expires rather than after.
An extension arranged in advance is a two minute administrative task. Dispatch adjusts the booking, leaves your container out of the pickup schedule and the route plan absorbs it. The same conversation after the truck has already been dispatched is a considerably more complicated and more expensive one, and it can involve a wasted movement that somebody has to pay for.
The opposite case is the one customers most often miss. If a clearance finishes in three days against a period of ten, calling for collection releases the container back into the fleet and stops the rental. There is no benefit to sitting on a full box because the paperwork said you could keep it.
Public holidays are the one constraint on all of this. Receiving facilities around Erwin, TN keep their own calendars, and a collection falling on a day the scale house is shut cannot happen. Booking with a few days of margin either side of a holiday period is the difference between a container leaving on the day you wanted and one standing through a long weekend.
